History
In the early 1990’s, the concerned residents recognized a lack of health care services in Northwest Pasadena. They urged the City of Pasadena to purchase the former Pasadena Community Hospital, which had been vacant for several years. By 1993, a broad-based community coalition, with representation from residents and social service agencies, was actively seeking ways to increase access to affordable, local and culturally sensitive medical and dental services. This led to the incorporation of Community Health Alliance of Pasadena in 1995 as a non-profit community benefit agency to accomplish this vision.
Through the collaborative efforts of the City, and other private partners like Huntington Memorial Hospital, Kaiser Permanente, and community stakeholders, CHAP opened its medical clinic in 1998, and the dental clinic opened in June 2001. Together, the clinics have provided over 30,000 patient visits to date.
